Sudden error when trying to start Trados Workbench

Hello,

I'm a long-time user of Trados Workbench (SDL Trados 2007 Suite Freelance), and I've been using it almost daily since I bought the product in 2008. However, when trying to start the application today, I got the following error message:

An error occurred while trying to verify the license.
Please check the installation and try again.
Translator's Workbench Freelance will now close.

I don't know what caused the problem. I recently updated my Studio license to Trados Studio 2024 Freelance, but I've been running both programs in parallel without problems since then. Also, it doesn't matter if I have Studio running or not.

Could you please help me, because I haven't found any solution top the problem, despite the fact that I have reset my license and tested the solutions I found online.

Kind regards,
Björn Dahlborn

  • Don't worry, I do understand English. The thing is that I am testing various ways of bringing back the application to life, since I've been using it up until last week (including moving it between computers) and it suddenly stopped working. Maybe activation or registering has nothing to do with it, but I'm eager to find a solution to the problem and I wanted to supply as much information as possible. Maybe this forum isn't the right place to look for answers.

(I can say that if Studio had had the same editing possibilities as Word, I would have dropped Trados Workbench. But I just upgraded to 2024, and I have failed to find the relevant features, just as in the 2021 version.)

This would definitely be a problem for you.  As soon as you move it you have to activate the licence and this is no longer possible.

Sounds as though you should take a look at Wordfast Classic.  If you don't want to work in an integrated CAT tool environment with the same layout for any filetype and only ever work on Word files and want to continue working within Word itself so you have all the editing capabilities that offers you, then Studio isn't for you.
