Unable to update Trados Studio 2022 due to license issue

Hello,

I am experiencing a complex issue with my Trados Studio setup and need guidance. Here is the full situation:

  1. I have been using Language Weaver for machine translation in Trados Studio. Even though the plugin is active, it does not translate automatically.

  2. I currently have Trados Studio 2022 installed. My license is active, and all my translation memories and projects are safe on my PC.

  3. Recently, I wanted to perform the proposed update to the latest Trados version. However, Trados reports that my key is not valid:

“Please ensure the product key belongs to this product version.”

  4. To update, I am required to deactivate my current license.

  5. Online deactivation fails with the following error:

“An error occurred while retrieving your license. Error ID 17777”

  6. I cannot proceed with the update, and I do not want to risk losing my translation memories or existing projects.

Could someone advise me on how to resolve this situation?

Thank you very much for your help!

Best regards,
Giulia

  • Hi Giulia,

Firstly, regarding the Language Weaver plugin - you should check first if the plugin itself requires an update and if yes, update it and then restart Trados 2022. The plugin update is not the same with updating Trados.

    Secondly,

I am not sure what you are trying to do update or upgrade Trados.

Updating Trados does not require any key, it's basically an update of your current software edition to the latest service pack released and you download the update package and install it.

Perhaps you wanted to upgrade Trados 2022 to Trados 2024 - the upgrade is in your RWS account and needs to be processed first, please see the below video:

The upgrade is going to generate an activation key for Trados 2024.

Also, you are not going to lose the TMs and the projects, everything is saved locally on your computer and not in Trados. Trados does not save anything internally, it's on the computer drive where Trados is installed (unless you changed the path for saved files and TMS and projects)

You are going to need to open the TMS and projects in Trados 2024 in order to be able to use them - since this is a different software installed on your computer altogether, Trados 2024 is not Trados 2022.

You can back up all your TMs and Projects in a different folder on your computer before deactivating Trados 2022 and processing the upgrade.

And then open them from there in Trados 2024.

Please let me know if you have other questions.

    Kind regards,

    Anca
