Trados Studio 2024 breaks access to IATE in all browsers (Windows 11)

Hello,

After installing Trados Studio 2024 on a new Windows 11 computer, we are no longer able to access IATE (https://iate.europa.eu) on this machine — in any browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox).

Important observations:

  • IATE works without issues on another computer on the same network
  • The problem occurs only on the computer where Trados Studio 2024 was installed
  • The issue affects all browsers, including fresh profiles and private windows
  • No IATE plugin has been installed in Trados
  • During Trados startup, we receive a popup stating that IATE could not be loaded
  • The IATE web interface loads but remains dimmed and non-interactive, consistent with a blocked WebView / authentication layer

Troubleshooting already performed:

  • Tested Chrome, Edge, and Firefox (including new profiles and private windows)
  • Disabled antivirus and browser extensions
  • Verified Windows proxy settings (no proxy configured)
  • Verified system date/time and TLS settings
  • Confirmed that the issue persists even when Trados is not running
  • Confirmed that the issue started immediately after installing Trados Studio 2024

Based on this, we conclude that the issue is not browser-related, not network-related, and not account-related, but rather caused by a system-level component installed or modified by Trados Studio 2024 (most likely WebView2 / WinINET / TLS configuration).

We therefore request:

  • Confirmation that this is a known issue with Trados Studio 2024
  • Guidance on how to repair or reset the affected Trados-installed components
  • Instructions for restoring full IATE web access without uninstalling the operating system

At present, Trados Studio 2024 effectively breaks access to IATE on this system, which is a critical resource in our translation workflow.

We look forward to your technical guidance.

  • Hi

A reset might help you with this.  To do this just close Trados Studio and then delete these folders:

    %appdata%\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio18\

    %appdata%\Trados\Trados Studio\18\

You will lose your plugins, and also your settings, but your projects and other resources will remain untouched. Putting the plugins back is trivial via the integrated appstore.

If you can't find these folders then you need to unhide your hidden files/folders:

    www.howtogeek.com/.../

Then restart Trados Studio and see if that helped.

    Kind regards,

  • Hello,

Following your instructions, we have now completed the reset and verified the results.

    Actions taken:

    • Trados Studio was fully closed
    • The following folders were reset (renamed to preserve backups):
      • %appdata%\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio18\
      • %appdata%\Trados\Trados Studio\18\
    • The system was restarted
    • Trados Studio 2024 recreated both the Studio18 and 18 folders correctly on startup

    Result:

    Unfortunately, the issue persists unchanged.

    • IATE (https://iate.europa.eu) remains inaccessible in all browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox)
    • The page does not load
    • The behaviour is identical before and after the reset
    • IATE works normally on another computer on the same network

    Given that:

    • the Trados Studio 18 user environment is recreated correctly,
    • resetting the local configuration has no effect,
    • and the issue began immediately after installing Trados Studio 2024,

this points to a system-level component affected by the Trados Studio 2024 installation (e.g. WebView2 runtime, WinINET, TLS or certificate handling), rather than a user-profile or plugin issue.

Please advise on the next diagnostic or repair steps, or on how this can be escalated.

  • Hi Maria,

Just to confirm, we're not able to replicate such issues after installing Trados Studio 2024. The IATE webpage loads correctly on different computers with Trados Studio 2024.

Trados Studio does save a WebView folder in:

    C:\Users\%localappdata%\Temp\SDLTradosStudio_AllowSingleSignOnUsingOSPrimaryAccount

You can try to remove this folder but this should only be used for Trados Studio WebView pages.

There are a few suggestions on Microsoft about how clean up the WebView:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5539932/microsoft-edge-webview2-runtime-not-working-after
I'd recommend trying these and see if they help.

You can also try a network capture tool like Fiddler and compare the requests between a machine where IATE works fine and a second one where it does not.

And a separate way to check this, would be to use ProcessMonitor from Microsoft, this would allow you to check which files and registry are used when trying to access a page.
You can compare the ProcessMonitor data with a computer where the access works fine, and try to identify the differences.

    I hops this helps.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Adrian,

Thank you for your continued engagement on this case.

At this stage, the situation remains unchanged: Trados Studio 2024 is not usable in our environment due to the persistent IATE-related issue, which affects not only Trados itself but also system-wide access to IATE in all browsers on this machine. As described earlier, the issue began immediately after installing Trados Studio 2024 and has not been resolved by the reset and remediation steps performed so far.

We are, of course, willing to continue cooperating on further technical troubleshooting, including the WebView cleanup steps you suggested, provided that these steps are clearly defined and proportionate.

    However, given that:

    • the software currently cannot be used for its intended purpose in our workflow,

    • the issue has persisted despite multiple remediation attempts,

    • and no concrete resolution timeline has yet been identified,

we would also appreciate clarification on what options are available should a technical resolution not be possible within a reasonable timeframe, including the possibility of license cancellation and refund.

This is not raised as a complaint, but as a practical consideration, given that the license represents a significant cost and was purchased in good faith in order to resolve earlier Trados-related issues.

Please let us know how you recommend proceeding, both technically and commercially, if the issue cannot be resolved.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi ,

Please raise a case with the technical team from your RWS Account, I have verified and linked to the email used in Community there's a FL license with a support contract.

    You raise it from here:

    https://oos.sdl.com/asp/products/ssl/account/mysupport.aspx

And the technical team can look more into this situation.

    Thank you.

    Best regards,

  • Hello,

    Thank you for the clarification.

I have followed the link to the RWS Customer Gateway but am currently unable to access the portal to raise a technical case, despite the FL license with an active support contract linked to my email address.

    Could you please either:

    • Enable access to the Customer Gateway for this account, or

    • Raise the technical case on my behalf and provide the case number for reference?

As this issue is currently blocking the use of Trados Studio 2024 in our workflow, we would appreciate assistance in ensuring that the case is formally registered as soon as possible.

    Thank you for your help.

    Kind regards,
