Introducing Trados GroupShare 2020 SR2: Enhanced Admin Visibility, Security, and Usability

Hello,

We’re pleased to announce the availability of Trados GroupShare 2020 SR2, a significant update that strengthens the platform’s security, administrative control, and file processing capabilities. This release includes a combination of new features, usability enhancements, and critical fixes, all shaped by real-world feedback from our customers and partners.

Spotlight Feature: The New Admin Center

One of the most impactful additions in this release is the Admin Center, a new web-based interface designed to give administrators greater transparency and control over how users and client tools interact with the system.

With the Admin Center, you can now:

  • Monitor user activity and login patterns

  • Track usage of Trados Studio and other client tools

  • Gain visibility into who is accessing what, and when

This functionality lays the foundation for more proactive system governance and helps teams better align access patterns with organizational policies.

Security and Identity Enhancements

Security remains a core focus of our roadmap. In SR2, we’ve introduced:

  • Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for more secure user access

  • Improved Windows Authentication for more consistent and secure account creation

  • OAuth2 upgrades and additional permission granularity, especially around Custom Properties

These updates contribute to a more robust identity and access management framework, aligning Trados GroupShare with modern security best practices.

Infrastructure Modernization: .NET 8 Upgrade

With SR2, GroupShare services have been migrated from .NET 6 to .NET 8, ensuring continued performance improvements, better compatibility, and long-term platform support. This transition also aligns with our broader goal of modernizing the Trados GroupShare technology stack.

Smarter File and Project Handling

Several updates improve how Trados GroupShare handles project files and templates:

  • File versioning during mid-project updates is now more consistent and reliable

  • A new project template setting allows users to reset segment lock batch task settings to default

  • File validation has been tightened to prevent empty files and overly long filenames (now capped at 209 characters)

These changes are designed to help project managers avoid common pitfalls during setup and execution, especially in complex, large-scale projects.

Better Reporting and Background Task Feedback

We’ve introduced updates that enhance transparency and accuracy in reporting:

  • Finalized files now appear in project task reports and exports

  • Background Tasks now include a new elapsed time column, and display the TM import file name for better traceability

  • SDLXLIFF analysis reports have been improved for accuracy, especially around internal fuzzy matches and locked segment scoring

These improvements help teams understand project performance more clearly and make more informed decisions.

Other Noteworthy Updates

  • NMT scoring now includes locked segments in the GAP score breakdown

  • API improvements include a new filter for restricted downloads

  • Online Editor now allows merge and split operations to be used independently

  • PDF processing behavior has changed slightly due to upstream updates. The output may look different, but no content is lost

  • Trados GroupShare no longer supports direct upgrades from the 2017 version

  • Database compatibility is now automatically updated to the latest supported level during upgrade

You’ll also find a range of fixes and refinements across the board, further improving stability and responsiveness.
