Cannot Connect to Server-Based Translation Memory

Dear all,

There is a set-up that involves different parties, some using GroupShare and others not. Some translators can access server-based TM, others not. There doesn't seem to be a discernible difference between those that can access and those that cannot. Below some details.

Client > LSP > Freelance Translator

Client:

- Trados 2017

- Server-based TM

- Sending packages through GS

LSP:

- Trados 2015 SR3

- Receives files through GS (VPN to client server, credentials)

- Sends out project packages

Translator:

- Trados 2017

- Opens package, but cannot connect to server-based TM (while some can)

I checked here: http://producthelp.sdl.com/sdl%20trados%20studio/client_en/Projects_View/Packages/P_Overview_Working_with_Packages.htm and take from it: "If your project has a server-based translation memory, this reference to the project translation memory on SDL TM Server is automatically included in the package for you to be able to connect to the server-based translation memory." as well as "A project package can also include [...] references to the server-based translation memories and termbases, [...]"

Basically, I don't understand how access to the server-based TM is regulated with SDL Trados. Do all parties have to use GroupShare? Do all parties have to have specific credentials? Do they all need to use VPN to access the client's server? Or, does each package include a kind of token that allows access?

Many thanks in advance!

  • Hi ,

Presumably all the translators have credentials to login to the server TM? Presumably the GS project manager has ensured that they all have permissions on GS to access the TM?

Probably better to ask this question in the GroupShare community so I'm also moving it over there.
