TMService.log and related log files growing out of control

The daily log files on our GS server are adding up to tens of GB, created in a fairly short amount of time. We set up GS on a driver other than C:, but the logs by default appear to be written to C:\\ProgramData\SDL\Service\Logs.
Considering the speed by which the log files are growing we will soon run out of space.
My questions:
- is there a way to consolidate older logs?
- what happens when a log file is deleted?
- what happens when we run out of space and new log files can't be created?
- what settings can be modified to make GS save the logs to another drive?

Any help is appreciated.

  • Hello Burckhardt,
You should update your GS server to the latest version (SDLTradosGroupShare2017 SR1 CU6 14.2.15120.6) by downloading it from your oos area.

This update addresses the creation of huge log files (and other annoying issues as well).

You can delete or archive the old log files elsewhere, removing them from your C: disk. No harm will be done.
After the update I don't think you'll need to change the default log directory.

Before updating, as always, I suggest you to check with your technicians and SDL service and read the documentation and backup your server.

    Best regards!
