Is there a fee for installing GroupShare 2019 once it comes out?

Hi,

We are using GroupShare 2015, for which a remote install by SDL was very much recommended (otherwise, I understand there would be no support).

We skipped upgrading to the 2017 products because of the hassle of having to reinstall GroupShare (at a cost).

Can someone let me know if SDL recommends it does the installation itself remotely, even the second time around?

Also, I assume GroupShare 2015 would not work with SDL Studio 2015 products, but let me know if I'm wrong.

Thanks

Michel Paquin

  • From what I've been told there is no plans for a GroupShare 2019 for quite some time. Groupshare 2017 SR1 was a complete reconstruction of Groupshare (not a simple update from Groupshare 2017). Project creation has been greatly improved by allowing you to store users and phases in the project templates. Uplift technology is allowed within the Groupshare environment. Performance is as good or better than Groupshare 2015.

  • I sure hope you are wrong, GroupShare should be aligned on the new products within at least the first two quarters of 2019, otherwise it doesn't make sense for those of us who had to skip a version. The 2019 Studio products are quite promising, they should have at least an update Groupshare, right? Hoping to hear from SDL.
  • Hello

I can confirm there are no plans currentlyfor a GS-2019 version.
You will however be pleased to know that Studio 2019 is fully compatible with GS2017 (and vice versa). In clear text Studio and GroupShare (moving forward) will no longer need the same versioning.
I am also reliably informed that a CU will be scheduled for release soon, and which will includes enhancements that have been requested.

    Hope this answers your questions.

  • It does, thank you very much. The dilemma for those of us who skipped the 2017 products due to organizational factor is that at some point, SDL stops supporting the products of a certain year. If we move to the 2019 Studio products except for GroupShare, we may to replace GS earlier than expected. In our organization (public), we mostly plan to keep the same versions for at least five years. In this case, we want to benefit from MT advancements that are not available for the 2015 versions. Thanks again.
  • Hi Michel,

We have indeed decoupled the release cadence between Studio and GroupShare.
We won't stop support based on yearly timelines, but actually released versions. So support for GroupShare will not run out until there is a newer major release.

    Thanks,
    Luis

  • Good to know. It's harder for us in public organizations to justify some aspects of translation technology and get the approvals, so despite the compatibility with GS 2017, we may very well wait for a GS 2019 release.
