Is the "Generate Target Files" batch task supposed to Finalize the file?

Hello!

I work at a LSP using Trados Studio 2021 + Groupshare to allocate projects to outside vendors. I've run into this issue a couple of times, where the translator will save the target file by using the "Generate Target Files" batch task instead of using "Save Target As" on the File Menu. What happens is that by running the batch task, they finalize the file, which creates a problem when I have already allocated the file to be reviewed by another person. The person cannot revert the file or check it out.

"Revert to SDLXLIFF" rarely work, so my options are asking the reviewer to use the target file instead of reviewing the file in Studio or using the SDLXLIFF files to recover the file, which is more work and takes more time.

So my question is: Is the "Generate Target Files" batch task supposed to Finalize the file?

And if so, can I de-activate that particular batch task in Groupshare projects so any "rebel" translators will be unable to finalize the file?

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Hi

Yes I can see the problem you are faced.

One of the differences between generate target files and finalise, is that of updating the TM's.
That said, these batch tasks are all driven through Studio and has little to do with GroupShare.

While we can custom privileges in GroupShare, from what I recall and see listed here,  non specifically lists "batch Tasks" or "Generate Target Files"

Will see if  is aware of an alternative approach
