Some languages are no longer available in Groupshare 2017

We have noticed that several languages have disappeared from our Groupshare version 2017. We have older clients who have the languages listed and have TMs in those languages, but now when we have a new client requesting for example "Somali", that language is no longer listed so we are unable to create TMs for it.

I have not been able to get an answer from my contact at RWS and he suggested I try here to see if anyone else has had this happen and how they resolved it. We considered upgrading to version 2020 but the $20k price tag to do so seems unreasonable.

We are using Trados Studio 2021 SR2 - 16.2.12.9338

And Groupshare 2017

I appreciate any help in restoring these languages.

  • Dear Kathlen,

What you describe seems to be identical with a defect (CRQ-17845) that was reported with RWS Engineering team in Jan 2020 GS 2017. This was fixed starting with GS 2020 CU4. Several languages were missing (Somali included). I have just checked this in a GS 2017 CU11 (latest update) version and it is indeed reproducible, none of the Somali flavors is present. But bear in mind that languages do not just randomly disappear unless the system is updated from one CU to a newer one.  We recommend purchasing and upgrading to the latest version of GroupShare 2020 Cu12 not just because of this defect but because of other improvements that were included in latest versions.

    Best regards,

  • Thank you for confirming that the languages are indeed missing or removed from an older version. Why can't this be fixed rather than the only solution being to spend $20k that we were quoted on upgrading?

  • Hi Kathleen,

Trados GroupShare 2017 will by soon End of Life once the next major release for GroupShare will be released (to be expected for Q2 2025). The last Cumulative Update 11 for GS 2017 was released in February 2020. That means that in the last almost 5 years there was no development work on the 2017 versions. The defect was fixed but only in GS 2020. While we understand that a handful of our customers still have GS 2017 installed, the vast majority of them have GS 2020, so development resources were invested only in fixing defects in the last major release (it was always like this).

    Thank you for understanding!
