"Connection to server failed. Please check your server connection settings, network and internet connections" error message.

Hi,

I am unable to connect to the GroupShare server of my client and I don't know why because I didn't update anything nor touched any setting. I get the "Connection to server failed. Please check your server connection settings, network and internet connections" error message.

I have tried to update the TLS 1.2 protocol but it doesn't solve the issue.

What can I do? I have tried on SDL 2021 and SDL 2024.

Thank you very much in advance!

  • Good morning Manon,

Thank you for raising this issue in the forums.

Could you please let me know if you can access the server in the Web Interface (try the server link in a web browser, and insert your credentials there). If it works, than your credentials are correct.

Now, I believe the issue is in Trados Studio/Multiterm. If the above login is correct, please perform a quick check in Trados Studio/Multiterm: File - Setup - Servers - Edit the needed Trados GroupShare connection. Please make sure that the SSL box is checked/unchecked: If the server is accessible via HTTPS, the SSL box needs to be checked. If it is accessible via HTTP, then the SSL box does not need to be checked. Now click next and try to log in. If the login is still failing, please attach the Trados Studio/Multiterm logs here - the last part from the file, with the current date. Or, expand the received error message and add a screenshot here.

If this is a general issue, and no user can connect to your Customer's Trados GroupShare server, they should either raise a RWS Support ticket (https://gateway.rws.com/csm) - if they have a Support and Maintenance Agreement - or they can simply raise a new Topic here in the forums. We will do our best to help them.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

  • Good morning Darius,
Thank you for taking the time to reply to my concern.

The credentials do work, I have tried in the web browser.

I checked the SSL box for HTTPS connection, but when clicking on "next", the error message pops up

Screenshot of a server connection setup window for GroupShare. The port is set to 443, and the SSL checkbox is selected. An error message in French states 'Echec de la connexion au serveur. Verifiez vos parametres de connexion au serveur, vos connexions reseau et Internet, et la disponibilite du serveur.' A red error icon is displayed next to the message.

Yes, the agency is aware and is assisting me in parallel.
    Thank you for your help.

  • Good morning Manon,

Thank you for the reply on this topic.

Then try accessing the server without marking the SSL box, and have the server address added. Is there any error message?
If you are in touch with the Customer, please ask them if the server should be accessible via HTTP or HTTPS, externally. I believe it is HTTP (this means to NOT hit the SSL box).

Looking forward to hearing from you.
