Concordance Search history

Hi,

I recently learned that Multiterm Administrator allows you to access and export the search history of shared MT's. Neat! You can find thie option under "public objects" > "statistics" by the way. What I like about this is that it might give you some idea in which direction to expand your terminology, However, I would like it even more if I my GroupShare TM's could be used for the same purpose. Therefore my question is, is there such thing as a concordance search history for shared translation memories? If not, what do I need to make that happen?

Cheers,

Arndt

  • Hi Arndt,

After double checking with the response is that this functionality is not available for Translation Memory. In Termbases it's indeed useful for unsuccessful searches so you can use this information to build up your terminology based on what your users are searching for but not finding. It's less useful for TMs because presumably if you have no good matches for concordance you will manually translate it and now you have it in your TM anyway. So it can be recalled from there.

    Regards

  • Hi Paul,

Thanks for your response. I do agree that termbases should be managed with consideration to what is useful. My crude definition of a functional MT does include both the lexicon (technical terms, proper nouns, preferred wording) and frequently retrieved information. Knowing which expressions are being looked up by my users how many times will presumably help me identifying relevant additions. I will not deny that the use cases for this are rather limited, but still, it appears to me that the Concordance search is the more obvious candidate for mining such data.
