Antidote plugin crashes again! Unable to fix - 09Jan23

I wish someone here will be able to help me resolving the following:

I have an issue with Antidote plugin.

(FYI - I have my Antidote paid subscription, Trados Studio 2022 SR2 - 17.2.9.18688, Windows 11, brand new PC, Studio user for more than 1 year)

The app suddenly disappeared from Studio while I was working last night, and I am unable to reinstate it. I tried many times to follow the advices found here in the forum or in the SDL help "maze" (delete the plugin, rename the folders, download new plugin, shut down and restart, etc.): nothing works. It looks like I may have more than one plugin file/folders. I have one called “packages”; another is called “unpacked”, I have the duplicates in another directory so let's say it:  at this point, it's a real nightmare. If I go into Connectix, Studio does not show anymore, and Connectix says my Trados Studio version is not supported!!!I lose my mind with all these technical acrobatics we recommend us to do. We must keep in mind one thing:  we are translators, not computer engineers.

I work with computer programs for over 35 years, using quite complex programs.  I also had to go through a few major corporate IT migrations. I was the one helping the others, as I was quite good with computers and I was known as the one being able to fix issues. I now work with Studio for over a year, and the more I use it, the more I find it complicated, tricky, unstable, old-fashioned. It feels like working with an outdated software from the 1980s. I feel like I use a software which will soon choke and die, tangled in its old DOS-written strings.

I know: SDL is investing heavily in its cloud application. However, a rewrite of its standalone application in a newer and more robust programming language would be more than urgent if SDL is to be at the forefront of the parade. Anyway, it won’t be long before SDL’s technology is no longer compatible with the much newer technologies used by third parties. We also have to bear in mind that some clients are asking us to avoid cloud applications for reasons of cyber security and confidentiality.  The standalone application will always be necessary.

Studio crashes so often (and particularly when I am working on big complex projects!) that it became my main stress source. And as SDL is the worst supplier in terms of technical support unless you pay big money, I am not having any fun at all for the price I paid!

Is there someone somewhere in the world who can finally convince them that we simply ask for it to decently work?

My dear fellow translators:  You are my (almost!) only hope!

Helene
