Wordlight plugin to highlight text crashes trados

I have Trados 2021 and I need to highlight some text in the target segments. I downloaded the Worlight widget from the store and selected the 2021 version, which was supposedely installed correctly. I see it in the top left of my trados interface but if I click it everything in trados freezes, it doesn't not respond to any command anymore and the only way to go on is to manually shut it down (CTRL+ALT+canc). I cannot uninstall the plug-in and in anycase it doesn't work. Why? Any suggestion?

Thanks

  • Hi  , srry you’ve run into this.

If Trados freezes when you click the plugin, the best next step is to remove Wordlight completely and, if needed, reinstall it afterwards.

In Studio 2021, plugins are stored under the Studio 16 folders; I'd recommend removing the plugin from both Packages and Unpacked because leftover files there can cause this kind of behaviour. (community.rws.com)

    Please try this:

    1. Close Trados Studio completely
    2. In Windows Explorer, enable Hidden items
    3. Check these folders and remove the Wordlight plugin from both Packages and Unpacked if you find it there:
      • C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16\Plugins\Packages\
      • C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16\Plugins\Unpacked\
      • If not there, also check:
        • C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16\Plugins\Packages\
        • C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16\Plugins\Unpacked\
        • C:\ProgramData\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16\Plugins\Packages\
        • C:\ProgramData\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16\Plugins\Unpacked\ (community.rws.com)

If you prefer, you can also try the standalone plugin installer/manager here: C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL plugin installer\Sdl.Community.SdlPluginInstaller.exe (community.rws.com)

After removing the plugin files, restart Windows and then test Trados again. If needed, reinstall the plugin from the AppStore afterwards. Important: ensure Studio is closed before deletion and note that the folders are recreated when the plugin is reinstalled. (community.rws.com)

If it still freezes after a clean removal/reinstall, it may point to a plugin conflict rather than a wrong download.  Maybe check if other plugins are conflicting with it by removing them one at a time?

  • Hi Patrick,

Thank you for your help! So the first time I downloaded Wordlight I had gone to the RWS store online, downloaded the plugin and clicked on it from my desktop to install it. That made everything crash and I deleted it. After your suggestion, when I opened Trados, I went to the puzzle icon and downloaded it directly from the list of plugins in the trados environment (without opening a chrome windown) and installed it directly from there. It worked, simple as that. I have no idea as of the why it caused conflicts in the other way but as long as it works I'm happy.

    Have a nice weekend!
