Hi Community,
I want a script that works this way: I select a text somewhere in Studio (say, a portion of source segment) and press a magic key combination => Focus goes to a PDF or MS Word file already opened in another window and it finds the text I selected in Studio. Is it possible? I tried to google for it but to no avail.

I am not a great programmer (disclaimer). However, this works for me. It will copy the marked text into Word's search field.

Great! Thank you so much for this script, I think I will find a use for it for sure. However most of my reference files are PDF. Should I replace WINWORD.EXE with something like ACROBAT.EXE to make it work the same way with PDF?
UPDATE: WOW!!! Replacing WINWORD.EXE with AcroRd32.exe did the trick. Thank you Daniel again.
Last question: what should I add to run the Find command (so that it finds [but not just paste] the text after pasting it into the Find field)? Any idea?

this is all really basic - that's the cool thing about AHK, you can automate GUI interactions and it's really simple. (I also found out there's a limit to what is useful to automate through the UI.)
If you want the script to press "Enter" after the search string is inserted into the search field, add these lines after the SendRaw line:
Sleep, 100
Send, {Enter}
Then the last three lines of the script.

And the very last question [LOL]: is there any chance to make the Find field clear itself before inserting a string? Now it inserts the next string keeping the previous string in place (resulting in one goes after another in the Find field).
In Acrobat. But I guess it does not matter. The script works equally for both. Furthermore, if I replace SDLTradosStudio.exe with Chrome.exe, it also works for browser-based CAT tools (like XTM or Memsource). So, if you know how to do it in Word, I think I can find a way to adapt it for Acrobat.
Try to insert a few lines after the line with the Send, ^f and Sleep, 250:
Send, ^a
Sleep, 100
Send, {Del}
Sleep, 100
If you leave the #IfWinActive away altogether it will work in all programs. If you want it to work only in Studio and in a browser then I think you have to copy the code and have one script for only in Studio and one for only in Chrome.
