studio 2019 crashes every day

Studio 2019 crashes every day.  Not a day goes by that Studio doesn't crash for some reason or another. Usually right before a delivery. How can I prevent this?
Thanks for feedback!

Best regards,

Deborah

  • Check the integrity of your PC and remove all unnecessary software. Make sure, all security patches are installed. Make sure your Windows is absolutely up to date. Prefer use of Windows Pro. Do not install possibly "useful" software, which you don't really need. Use a decent anti-virus program (I have best experience with Norton). Make sure your Studio is up to date. Manage your files and folders in systematic way.

From my experience with several PCs you can live Studio up and running for several days without even switching off the PC. Studio is a quite stable program, so the problem is most probably related to your PC environment and not really resulting from Studio.

  • This happens on all of our computers. We use ESET anti-virus. Where do I download all security patches? It updates automatically. My experience is that Studio is NOT very stable...I leave Studio running all day. Should I not close it at night?

  • I used to have problems with larger files crashing in Studio but I found that if I then turned OFF 'Match repair' in the project settings, the crashes stopped. Most of my work is proofreading so I don't really need fragment matching turned on.
    Here's where you do it:
If you're not working with project settings, i.e. working via Translate Single Document, the above function can also be turned off via File>Options.

Then you can also close the 'Fragment matches' window in the Editor view but that bit's not necessary for stability though.
I also have LookAhead turned off, via File>Options, here:
That speeds things up, as does having 'Enable verification of segment' unticked under 'After Confirming Segments Manually'
This isn't an answer but it can stabilise things until you find out what is causing the crashes...
    Hope this helps!
    Thanks,
    Ali
  • PS

Sorry I meant to include you in my post... I wasn't suggesting my reply was a solution, but that it might help.

, Jerzy is one of the absolutely best expert Trados users, his knowledge is very broad, I'm sure he can help you find out what is causing this..

  • I have no knowledge on ESET anti-virus. Security patches are usually applied to Windows automatically.
What kind of computers do you use? Where are the files stored? There are so many aspects which may influence the stability, that it is next to impossible to list them all.

Usual problems are caused (without any correlation to you in person):

    • chaotic file and folder management
    • TMs and TBs displaced all over the place
    • not updated resources in Studio 2017 or 2019 (TM will show then a small orange triangle symbol)
    • not reorganized termbases
    • strange anti-virus solutions
    • not updated PC, updates broken in the middle
    • sharing resources via cloud
    • storing files in the cloud
    • dozens of "useful" apps, which in the end of the day bring nothing
    • PC utilization software, like registry cleaner, apps to free PC memory and so on
    • ...
