MultiTerm 2017 Online: Java affecting layouts?

Question

Hi, 
 
 in older versions of GroupShare with MultiTerm Online component, the technology relied heavily on Java. Is that still the case for MultiTerm Online in GS 2017? I recall that Java updates would e.g. make working with Layouts extremely difficult. Is this something that has been addressed in MT Online 2017?

Hi Andreas, 
You are quite correct about JAVA which caused all sorts of problems in previous versions and especially Silverlight that was an issue issues with modern browsers which have been fixed with the move to HTML5 
When using the new default layout, Java is no longer required for editing terms. The legacy layouts are also still available and still require Java.

I was able to test this myself in GS 2017, and I confirm that the Default layout is available and usable in MT Online 2017, and that the Java-depency is very much still an issue when using the other layouts, even in MT Online 2017.

Yes, old layouts will still rely on Java Applets and this will not change in the future, as there is no way for us to remove that dependency for those. 
 
The new layout is JS based and does not need it anymore.
