Inserting accents in MultiTerm

Question

Afternoon, all. 
 
 Can anyone tell me how to insert accents when entering terms into a Termbase, either directly from within Studio or using MultiTerm Desktop (2017 versions), please? The only solution I've had from the SDL representative I enquired with was to install a French keyboard, which I don't want to do as I frequently work in languages other than French. I'm sure for a software program aimed at linguists there must be an easy way to do this, particularly as a search of the forum returned no results. It's obviously not something many people have the need to ask!!

Have you tried with ALT+character code[numeric keyboard]? For example, ALT+0225 gives you an "&aacute;" usefulshortcuts.com/.../accents-alt-codes.php Regards, Almudena

Hi Victoria, The simple way to find the accent you want on a Mac: To type an accented or alternate version of a character, hold a key down until its alternate characters are displayed. To choose one of the characters displayed, type the number that appears under the character, or click the character you want to use. If you decide you don't want to type an accented character after holding a key, type another character, or press the escape (esc) key. If no additional characters are available for the key you're holding, the pop-over menu doesn't appear. The menu also doesn't appear when the Key Repeat slider is set to Off in the Keyboard pane of System Preferences. (Taken from support.apple.com/.../HT201586) If you actually want to be able to type in a foreign language, there's a way to make this possible here: www.wikihow.com/Change-the-Keyboard-Language-of-a-Mac I use this method. I have a PC with English keyboard layout but have also learned to type on a French layout and a German layout so my fingers 'remember' where the accents are. I have those 3 languages set up on my system and change quickly between languages (switch input methods) as I type using the shortcut I set up on my system to change languages. Useful because it also spell and grammar checks in all 3 languages (in Word at least). And/or you could print out a keyboard layout for each language whose accents you want then switch language input and hit the appropriate key using the language layout printout to define where the accented letter is in that language.
