Glossary plugin and virtual machine

Hello All,

I am using Studio 2017 on a virtual machine (Win7 on Mac). I installed the Glossary Plugin, and every time I hit the GC button, I get an Invalid procedure call or argument message. The following message says it cannot find Excel. I also downloaded the Glossary Converter, but there are also errors generated with that...

Would anyone have a suggestion?

I am adding my Excel file.lexiqueIFB.xlsx

TIA,

François

  • Hi ,

ok, in that case it may well be worth considering the advice Evzen referred to in the help for the Glossary Converter. There is a section on known issues in there that says this:

"Sometimes a functioning Excel installation is not recognised and you get a warning that spreadsheets cannot be handled. Try to do a repair install of excel, even if it looks perfectly fine by itself. Unfortunately this is something that I have no control over; it seems to be related to the way that installers handle some excel components, especially when updating Office.

If that does not help, you can install LibreOffice or OpenOffice, both support all formats that Excel does and are (hopefully) picked up by the converter if Excel is not. You may have to enforce the use of Libre/Open Office, see the section about command line use. That section also describes how to get a debug log in case of Excel issues. If you have problems with Excel, please send that debug log. "

The relevant part of the command line use if you try Libre/Open Office would be this bit:

    "Enforce Libre/Open Office
If both Excel and Libre/Open Office are installed, the converter will try to use Excel. In rare cases, Excel does not work, even though it is installed. In that case, you can try to install Libre/Open Office, and enforce its use. To do so, pass in the command line parameter -l, or use the file GlossaryConverter_NoExcel.cmd that is by default installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL OpenExchange\Glossary Converter."

Let us know if you need help with this.

    Regards
