Replacing of some old subject picklist values with the respective new subject picklist values in MultiTerm 2017

Is there a means to replace, in a Termbase file, some old subject picklist values, that are shown in some Term pairs (English-US/Portuguese-BR), with the respective new subject picklist values, using, for example, the Batch Edit or another MultiTerm resource?

The old subject picklist values are not defined in the new existing picklist of the Termbase file, because they were deleted and replaced with the respective new subject picklist values.

For example, the old subject picklist value "General" was replaced with "General Terms", but some Term pairs in the Termbase file show the subject "General" instead of "General Terms", and the replacing of "General" with "General Terms" manually would be very laborious, because the Termbase file has 15.300 Entries. There is a lot of Entries, the subject of which should be replaced with the respective new subject(s).

What should I do?

Thank you very much for your help.

  • Hi

You can't use the batch edit feature in Studio because this will only search/replace text in the term and not in the fields. I reckon you have a few options though:

    1. If the structure of your termbase isn't too complex then I'd use the Glossary Converter from the appstore to export them all out to Excel.  This will get you field values too which you can easily search and replace in Excel, and then convert back to a termbase using the Glossary converter again.
    2. Export to MultiTerm XML, search and replace in the XML with a text editor, then create a new termbase with the definition for your termbase and import the updated XML back in.  Maybe also edit the definition first to get rid of the "General" field you don't want anymore.
    3. Use Excelling MultiTerm from Kaleidoscope (also in the appstore) as this will allow you to edit the fields in Excel and put the updated file back into MultiTerm.

    Regards
