How would you go about sharing a MultiTerm glo via organization's website?

Hello everyone:

I would like to hear comments and suggestions on the idea of sharing an organization’s glossary with internal and external users.

I volunteer for an association dedicated to educating patients and caregivers about Parkinson’s disease. I have created a glossary (Eng > Spa) in MultiTerm and now want to pass it on to them (and to other organizations) to post it on their website. This glossary (with terminology approved by experts) would not only help patients and caregivers, but it would also be a valuable tool for translators who work in this field.  

The challenges that I’m trying to address are:

  • NOT EASY TO READ: I have exported MultiTerm into an RTF file, but the output format is not easy to read. The entries with ‘descriptive fields’ are particularly confusing since the text runs together. What format would you suggest that is easy to export and easy to read. 
  • MANUAL WORK: The glossary will continue to grow, so every-so-often I will need to pass on an updated version to these associations to update it in their website. But, I have noticed that each time I export a new version, I have to manually change the header since the export shows the first term in the TB as the ‘header’ of the RTF document.

    The RTF export is a bit of a black art, and one I have on my backlog to try and figure out so I can write something on this.  But it looks like something that will require more time than I have been able to devote to it so far.  I also have an item on our backlog for the appstore team to create a MultiTerm Export app that makes a better job of it... but this is also down the priorities and won't materialise very soon.  I believe  was looking at this with an external developer once, but I'm not sure where that got to.

    However, now we have the bad news out the way the example you shared looks pretty simple and if this is what you would like then perhaps do this:

    1. Export to Excel using the Glossary Converter

    2. Tidy it up in Excel so you get the columns and fields you want

    3. Copy the Excel table into Word, add your cover pages etc. and save as a PDF.

    Probably won't take very long.

    Maybe also worth mentioning that if this is a termbase being managed by a company in GroupShare rather than a filebased Termbase in a local copy of MultiTerm then you could also consider making use of the MultiTerm Widget.  This would allow them to access the termbase in realtime and you just manage the termbase centrally with no exports required.

    I have the exact same question as Lucy. In theory, the MultiTerm Widget does exactly what I want; unfortunately, the software seems to be very buggy: it crashes before it can even be opened on my colleague's computer. On my machine, it does open but then only shows the terms in languages A and B, not the other fields that I have (which contain important information for the users of the terminology). Are there any news on the Widget? Or is there something else that would work for this purpose?

    I also tried the export, which gives me a file that requires extensive manual adjustments so that each update is a major time investment - and of course something like the Widget would be much more convenient for users...

    Any pointers you could give me?
