CANNOT ADD A NEW TERM OR VIEW DETAILS FOR AN EXISTING TERM FROM SDL STUDIO 2017

When trying to add a new term to my own file-based termbase from Studio 2017 SR 1 (whether I choose "Add New Term" or "Quick Add New Term"), I get the following message "Object reference not set to an instance of an object", and then, after clicking OK, I'm left with the Termbase Viewer window, which reads "No open termbase". If I try to "View terms details" through the Term Recognition or the Term Search windows for existing/recognized terms, I'm presented with the Term Viewer window with the "No open termbase" message again. However, I can successfully search for terms through the Termbase Search window, and terms are accurately recognized in the Term Recognition window. Also, I can enter new terms or edit existing terms directly through my Multiterm 2017 SR1 software. I've made sure both my Studio and Multiterm applications are updated (running on a Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 system). This is the first time I encounter this error since I've been using that specific termbase (which I created over a year ago). I've searched the Knowledge Base and the Community Forums, but haven't found a solution for this specific issue (although I've found inquiries regarding the same error message in different contexts, but those solutions have been of no avail in my case). Could you, please, help? Thank you.

  • Hello José Andrés Rubio (José AndrésRubio) ,

As you have been using this TB for some time and without issue, then I suggest that something has indeed been corrupted.

Indeed there are a a few threads relating to similar issues, but we dont know if these are successful as often posters do not

If you could post the error stack from the error message, this would be helpful.

However in the mean time I would suggest the following steps

1)Try resetting the layout in Studio- Go to the View Tab and Rest Window lay out.

Restart Studio and see if this helps.

Trados Studio screenshot showing the View tab with an arrow pointing to the 'Reset Window Layout' option.

If this does not work then please-

Run a repair installation for Studio and Multiterm

    Close all SDL applications.
Open the Control Panel:Windows 7: Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
Click/highlight the relevant SDL product from the list (e.g. SDL Trados Studio 2017 / Multiterm 2017) and click Repair.
    Restart Studio / Multiterm.

If this solves the problem- please let the community know.

  • Hello, Steven, I reset the window layout in Studio as you suggested and it worked. I can add new TB terms and view existing TB term's details directly from Studio as usual now. Thank you very much!
