Multiterm Extract - defective interface + files not recognized

Dear community,

I have just purchased Multiterm Extract and have installed it on my comp. But when I opened it I saw right away that the interface was not like it should be. The font is way too small, the window is oversized and some buttons are missing in a dialog box. You can see how it looks on the pics I have joined.

Second problem, when I try to add files from the drop-down menu of the "Create a new project" feature, for example word files or Translation memory files (that I have created in Studio 2017), Multiterm extract just does not see them in my folder, although all these files are supposed to be supported. Note that I tried to save my word files as old word 97 files and the program could finally see them! But it does not recognize any other files. So I cannot work with the program. It seems to be defective, I really do not know what to do. Did anyone face the same problem?

Thanks very much in advance for your help

Brigitte

Screenshot of Trados Studio's 'New Project Wizard' with an empty project files list and buttons partially hidden due to oversized window.Screenshot of Trados Studio's 'Add' dialog box showing an empty 'Translation Memories' folder despite files being present.

First pic: buttons are hidden although the dialog box is full size. Second pic: in this folder there are several translation memories created in Studion 2017 but nothing appears here.

On these two pics the font is ok but on other dialog boxes and on the main window, it is abnormally small.

This is most likely due to you using a Hi-res screen.  This is the first time I've seen the problem with MultiTerm Extract but this is probably because it's not as heavily used as other products.  There are instructions for dealing with this in the KB when related to Studio and Multiterm, but not for Extract:

    https://gateway.sdl.com/apex/communityknowledge?articleName=000001872

We also have an app for this here:

    https://appstore.sdl.com/language/app/change-scaling-behaviour/790/

I doubt these will really help you, but I mention them because I think this is good grounds for logging an installation case with the support team and they may be able to help you.  This can be achieved really quickly using this link:

    gateway.sdl.com/liveagentlicensing

    You have two options:

    1. Submit a case using a webform
    2. Use live chat to get a licence reset

You want to use the first option and make sure that you refer to this thread so the teams can see what you have tried already.

Where does it say that SDLTM files and other modern filetypes are supported in MultiTerm Extract?  I don't believe they are.  If you browse to select files for a new Extract project you'll see what's supported and it's only older file formats.

  • Hello Paul,

Thank you for your message. I will do what you suggest regarding the resolution problem. About the file format, you are right, thank you for pointing it out. I have converted my sdltm files into tmx and Multiterm Extract could see them as you said and was then able to perform the extraction.
Unfortunately, now I have a new problem: I don't know if it's a coincidence but after having installed Multiterm Extract and updated Multiterm Desktop as required, my Termbase does not work anymore within Trados Studio! A script error appears upon validation of a new term entry in my Trados project. As a result, whereas the terms are well saved in my Termbase, Trados does not show them in the source text whenever there is an occurence of such terms. I will now create a new thread to get help.

    Best regards
