MultiTerm doesn't start: An unexpected error has occurred while loading the application plug-ins.

Hi,

There are several posts with similar errors, but none of the suggested solutions (repair after renaming certain folders) worked for me. I've tried a reinstall also, still the same. I'm using SDL MultiTerm 2017 Desktop SR1 14.1.2441.

Since this morning (it worked fine yesterday), when I try to start MultiTerm, I get this:

Error dialog box with a red cross symbol indicating 'An unexpected error has occurred while loading the application plug-ins.' with options for Knowledge Base and Community.

Detailed error message stating 'Access to the path C: Program Files (x86) SDL SDL MultiTerm Sdl.Desktop.IntegrationApi.Plugin.Xml is denied.' with exception type 'System.UnauthorizedAccessException'.

In case the first line isn't visible, this is what it says:

Access to the path 'C:\\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL MultiTerm\Sdl.Desktop.IntegrationApi.Plugin.Xml' is denied.

I can't save the error - MultiTerm denies access to any folder, including My Documents. Outside of MultiTerm, I can save other files normally in any folder.

Has anyone ever seen this? It might be an effect of some change in my company network security, which I'm checking with them, but if you have any other idea, or know of a workaround, please let me know.

It confuses me that there has been no apparent change in anything from yesterday to today (no updates to MultiTerm, Windows or other).

Thanks,

Ines

  • Hello

The first thing I notice is that it appears that you have an out of date MultiTerm installation. This is the original release.

The last update would have been to the following version-

Error message in Trados Studio MultiTerm indicating an out-of-date installation with a prompt to update to the latest version.

Please make sure that you keep both Studio and MultiTerm on the latest release as otherwise problems will occur.

The problem of you not being able to even start MultiTerm would indeed indicate that some type of permissions security setting have changed within your environment. This could have been remote changes made by your IT department for example.

If you are no longer able to use MultiTerm  (right click and run as administrator) then please do contact your IT department.

Your company also has a valid support contract, so can log a ticket with us via the SDL account.

Once the issues is fixed, please let us know the cause
