Unable to work: Cannot uninstall Version 49020 and prevented from installing Version 43891

Question

Having been advised that a new version of MT exists (Version 15.0.49020.2), I have attempted to install it. Installation fails, because it gets to an eternal reboot loop before it completes. Rebooting does not help and clicking 'no' in the reboot dialogue, the installation procedure merely ceases. 
 I have deleted all visible traces of the attemptand then tried to reinstall the previous version (15.0.43891.0). That fails with the following message: 
 
 So, I am completely stuck and cannot work . Would anyone know a solution, please? I have a similar problem with Studio. There I did manage to revert to version 15.1.0.44109, but trying to run the programme does not get beyond the splash screen.
