MultiTerm v2109 install/uninstall/update error: Setup has detected a different version of this product already installed. If you still wish to remove or repair that version, you must use that version s installer.

Dear All,

I have run into a new Multiterm v2019 problem today: when trying to open Multiterm, it obviously tries to check for a new version and then the icon of the opened program just stays in Window's Taskbar, but Multiterm cannot be maximized or used. It has to be closed forcibly.

When trying to uninstall/reinstall the product, the following message appears:

Error message from SDL MultiTerm 2019 stating 'Setup did not complete. The error is: Setup has detected a different version of this product already installed. If you still wish to remove or repair that version, you must use that version's installer.' with an OK button.

I have tried everything: using a custom uninstaller to uninstall and get rid of all Multiterm traces, then install it from scratch. No luck with the new installation. Uninstall also Studio and reinstall it again: did not help.

It seems that over the past two week, all I have been doing is trying to fix different Trados errors and I am growing tired a frustrated.

Best regards,

Pavel

  • It sounds as though you have probably uninstalled incoreectly in the first place... not your fault as I don't think we are clear enough about that entries available in the windows control panel.

I'd do a manual clear out and then reinstall. Manually delete these folders if they are still there (back up your Termbases first in case you make a mistake):

    c:\ProgramData\Package Cache\SDL\SDLMultiTermDesktop2019\
    c:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL MultiTerm\MultiTerm15\
    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\SDL\SDL MultiTerm\MultiTerm15\
    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL MultiTerm\MultiTerm15\

I think that's about it for a clean install. Then reinstall.

If you still have problems after this I'd recommend you log a ticket with support so an engineer can look at this for you. This is clearly an installation problem and for licensing or installation issues that prevent you from working we have a route for all customers to get help. This can be achieved really quickly using this link:

    http://support.xl8.one

Just fill in the form and submit it. Make sure your email address is entered correctly or nobody will be able to get back in touch with you.

    Regards

  • Hello Paul,

I followed all the instructions above and tried to re-install MultiTerm. But was unable to do so.

I do not have a support contract. So how do I resolve this issue?

    Thanks and best wishes.
