Term recognition issue (MultiTerm) under Studio 2019 SR2: Could not connect to termbase...

Hello,

I installed SR2 a few days ago (so now Studio 2019 SR2 - 15.2.4.1693), with MultiTerm 15.0.4.56053, so most recent version.

Now I have the problem that MultiTerm seems to be no longer compatible with older versions, in the case of one client of mine: Studio 2017. When they sends a package with a server-based term-base, and I open the package in my 2019 SR2 environment, I can work with the server-based client TM, but not with the termbase. I get the error message:

"Could not connect to the xx termbase, so you cannot use it for term recognition."

Has anyone already encountered this problem and is able to help?

Many thanks and a good day!

Kind regards,

Alexandra

  • Hello  ,

I don't think the issue lies with the Studio/MultiTerm upgrade as otherwise we would be seeing many more cases.

Please first check your project package/settings and ensure that the TB is actually included.

Next check the server settings and ensure this is up to date  and that you have the correct permissions (you should possibly speak with your client regarding this).

  • Hello,

Thank you for your prompt reply, Steven. Well, I assume that the server settings are still up to date, as otherwise the TM connection would also fail, wouldn't it? So I can work with the client server-based TMs in Studio 2019 SR2, but no longer with their termbases since I started with 2019 SR2 last Wednesday. This concerns different PMs with different projects - always the same - TMs yes, termbase with term recognition: no. The termbase project settings now always look as follows:

Trados Studio termbase project settings showing a red 'X' icon next to 'Not specified' indicating an error with the termbase connection.

In front there is the termbase name, followed by "(default)".

Thanks in advance and regards, Alexandra

PS: I've read in the meantime that there seem to be various issues with SR2 and that it is recommended to wait with the installation. Unfortunately, I've installed it now, and this issue is quite annoying. I really hope it can be fixed.

  • SDLMultiterm (15.0.4.56053):

Login in Server-Database is possible when starting the program separately

    BUT:

When I try to connect the same Server Database in SDL Trados Studio 2019 SR2 to include the MultiTerm termbasis the connection fails:

Error message in Trados Studio stating 'Connection to SDL MultiTerm Server (could not be established)' with additional details about server database version mismatch.

    I recognised that in

    C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio15

    ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib.dll is 1.2.0.246

    While MultiTerm uses:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL MultiTerm\MultiTerm15

    ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib, Version=1.0.0.999

I think there is a conflict between the programs and so integration of MultiTermin Termbase is not possible within SDL Studio ?

Is there an updated ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib for MultiTerm15 available ? (Copied the file from Studio 15 into MultiTerm15 but that did not work).

  • Hello ,

I am not aware of any conflicts that you suggest- if this were the case we would see a lot of such issues.

It is i think quite possible that TM's might work and TB's not- as they are not stored in exactly the same location- so its possible there is indeed an issue here.

Please log a ticket via your SDL Account

Screenshot of SDL Account support page with options to submit a new Translation Productivity case, installation issue, or online chat.

Support can advise you if this is an installation issue or indeed a package issue which will need your clients involvment to resolve.

  • And if I add the same entry in Multiterm I have no problem at all.

  • Hello ,

Im not sure whether has had any feedback from the support team or not so i'm a little in the dark here.

    Maybe try the following (reset)

    https://gateway.sdl.com/apex/communityknowledge?articleName=000011314

Also, if you haven't already- ensure MultiTerm is up to date as well
