Threshold for Error: File sharing lock count exceeded. Increase MaxLocksPerFile registry entry.

What is the number of entries that triggers this error and what would be the best way to solve it? I'm trying to reorganize a termbase with around 80K entries and get this error. Attempting to import 160k entries into a new termbase (or converting it with the Glossary Converter) also throws this error.

  • Clarification: I've read the kb article about tweaking the registry, but I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to break up the termbase into two or three files and process that instead, which is why I would like to know how many entries would be safe to process to avoid this error.

  • Hi

There isn't a fixed number.  Rather I think it relates to the content since there are no fixed structures or limits to what each entry could consist of.  160k isn't normally too much but if you're having problems the registry tweak is worth a go... easy to put back afterwards if it fails, or if it works.
