Line breaks possible in MultiTerm?

I wonder whether it's possible to insert line breaks in MultiTerm? This would be a great advantage for us as we sometimes have to deal with control panel buttons and indicators where there's very limited space for the texts only and the line breaks need to be in a specific position.

Example of a button :

DRIVE
MOTOR
OFF

...

Actually I did use soft line breaks (shift + return) at the beginning, but after having to move the termbase contents to another termbase they were all lost. Is there a safer/more permanent way to do it?

Cheers!!

  • Thank you... so maybe try it this way.

First I have my termbase... looks like this:

Screenshot of Trados Studio termbase with two entries, highlighting soft returns in the terms.

I export it to Excel (Glossary Converter) and then add a few more entries. So I have what you might get with new entries and maybe even some duplicates:

Excel spreadsheet exported from Trados Studio with English and Romanian terms in two columns.

Now I just convert the spreadsheet into a termbase (drag and drop the Excel into the Glossary Converter) to create a new one and then set up to use these settings:

Settings window in Trados Studio for merging termbases with options for file paths and language merging.

Settings window in Trados Studio showing output format options for converting input, including various file types.

Now I have this in the front page:

Glossary Converter tool with a notification that the merge feature is now active.

Next I select the two SDLTB files together and drag them into the interface.  I get prompted twice with this same screen (yours may be different, but expect two prompts):

Trados Studio language field settings showing English (United Kingdom) and Romanian (Romania) options.

Then I'm asked which field I want to synchronise on:

Dropdown menu in Trados Studio for selecting the field to synchronize on, with options for English and Romanian.

That's it.  Now I have a new termbase that looks like this:

Screenshot of Trados Studio termbase with five entries, indicating that line breaks are retained.

I do think I should be able to merge the Excel and the SDLTB which would save an operation, but this seems to cause duplicates for me and I can't find a way to prevent this

But working like this with SDLTB files and the Glossary Converter does seem to do the trick.  Give it a try.
