Error when trying to quick add a term to the termbase through Trados

I created and started using a TermBase through SDL Trados 2021 today, and then suddenly every time I tried to quick add a term pair it freezed for a bit and then came up with a message "Errors occurred whilst displaying the terms from (termbase directory) using source English. Please try reorganizing the termbase from the Termbase Management view. If this fails to resolve the problem please contact SDL support."

I went on MultiTerm and reorganized the file, but the error persists. Besides this, it seems to even manage to add the term besides the error message and the termbase continues working normally, the main issue is that then every time I try to add a new term it will crash like that for some 20 seconds and then give this error message, which is quite disruptive to my workflow. I tried restarting both Trados and TermBase before and after reorganizing, but nothing seems to fix this.

  • Thank you for your inputs. I tried the step of exporting to mtf and mdf and reimporting to a new termbase, but it did not work. My TermBases are all in my C: drive, yes. The old termbase was in my Studio 2019 directory since, even though I created the termbase on the 2021 version, the project it is ascribed to was started on the 2019 version.
The new termbase after importing was saved in the SDL -> SDL MultiTerm -> Termbases folder instead of on a Trados folder, though I don't think that would make any difference. Still got the error message after loading that new one.

When I first tried just erasing the .mtf and .mdf files, it seemed to work for one term, but then the issue returned again immediately after it. I also noticed yesterday that occasionally I wouldn't get the error message, but that was very occasionally (like 1 out of 15 terms added). I started that termbase yesterday though and it was working fine for a while until this issue began, I'm wondering if it could be some specific term or string of terms that I added which corrupted it somehow? Might there be some limitation in that regard that I'm not aware of?

I don't have any other termbases besides that one so I can't really tell whether that's an issue particular to that termbase or not.
