Multiterm merging / duplicating terms on its own?

Hi everyone!

I am using MultiTerm for a project for my university. My list of terms was manually created one by one, not imported in any way. Each entry has 4 words: one in Italian, one in English, one in Italian Sign Language and one in American Sign Language (with video files in them).

I wanted to ask you if the following events are normal (and if so, how to avoid them) or if they are bugs:

1. MultiTerm duplicated one entry on its own, while I was editing it. I just stumbled across the same entry twice and I know I did not create it twice (there are only 50 entries so it is easy to keep track of them) so I had to delete one of them;

2. MultiTerm, just now while I was uploading the videos (I had created all the 50 entries already, I just had to add the videos), decided to "merge" two entries. I had the entry "marketing mix" and the entry "target market", both with their different fields filled in properly. Now the "marketing mix" entry has the info and fields of the "target market" entry, while the "target market" entry remained the same (and it is correct). Basically I now have two entries with the info of "target market", but one entry kept the name of its original one, "targeting mix". I don't even know how these two are connected or why it happened. I now have to create the entry "marketing mix" all over again. I tried closing MultiTerm and reloading the termbase but it did not work.

Screenshot of Trados Studio MultiTerm showing two entries, 'Marketing mix' and 'Target market', with 'Marketing mix' incorrectly displaying information from 'Target market'.

Can someone please tell me if I am doing something wrong? Thank you!

  • I'm sorry I've not been clear, the fact is I don't even know how I made it happen (if it's my fault) so I don't really know how to explain it better but I'll try.

    No, if I add a new entry now it is not duplicated. It duplicated one while I was editing it. I noticed because I found the same entry that I had open on the entry list, I clicked on it and it was the same entry just without the edits I had just made. So I just deleted it and that was it.

    Later I found out I had an entry called "marketing mix" that had all the info and fields filled out as if it was another entry, "target market". So for example, I had the definition of target market in the entry called marketing mix. But I also had the actual "target market" entry, with all its correct info. I basically lost the info on the marketing mix entry. Nowhere to be found.

    In the end I resorted to deleting them both and start from the very beginning.

    I hope it is clearer now. I do have to say: I am a complete newbie at this program, so I've only ever clicked "add new" and then added the fields I needed in the entry. So I really do not know how I may have caused these events.
