How to combine two similar termbases with duplicates only appearing once?

Dear Multiterm experts,

I have created a new termbase with a new field that says "approved", indicating all the terms were sent by the client, not the terms I entered on the fly within Studio Editor.

Now, I would like to import this new termbase to my existing bigger termbase that contains both the approved terms and draft terms.  I would like the terms from this new termbase to replace the same terms in the existing termbase, because the new termbase has the status information.  I tried the export and import approach with the new termbase, but found that the same term would appear twice, one with the additional field info and one without.  How do I make duplicated only appear once?

Thank you for reading my awkward explanation and many thanks in advance for your suggestions.

  • Hi Chunyi,

What you need to do is create a new import definition, during which you can govern how terms are synchronized and how to handle any conflicts, see more details in the Help section:

    Thanks,
    Luis

  • Hi Luis,

Thank you for the link, but it did not work for me. It seems synchronize on term only works when the identical term in both termbases has the same id, which is not my case. After I imported one (which contains the additional field info) xml file to the existing termbase, I got double entries for a single term. Multiterm must have merged any term that shares the same id in each file.

Basically, I am trying to add additional info to the terms that come from the client's termbase within a larger termbase which also contains the "ad hoc" terms I added on the fly. Is there an easier way to do this?

Thank you again for your kind help.

PS. Does the link you provided apply to Multiterm 2014? I could not find all those available options in Multiterm 2014. For example, under Termbase Management>Import>Synchronize on Entries, it description says "Add entried as new entries. However, if entries with the same entry number exists already, then the entries are merged." There are no other options to choose.
