I could try to de-install and re-install the plugin, but am wary of that.
I am using Trados 2021, Windows 7 working all right

If you have been using the plugin for some time, then I would indeed suggest removing the plugin and installing it again.
It's also perhaps worth noting at this stage that we no longer support Windows 7 and we would recommend upgrading to W10

The bug came without warning.
I'm reluctant to remove the plugin. Why did it stop? Are there risks of not being able to re-install it?
Did you encounter this problem in other contexts ?
Even more reluctant to migrate this machine from W7 to W10.

that in most cases the pre-translation fails, and I have to move from segment to segment to (automatically) invoke Deepl.
