Importing entries from one termbase into another one with different termbase definitions

We created a brand new termbase for our team with MT 2021. We are now trying to import terms from our legacy termbase (also MT 2021) into the new, empty termbase. However, the termbase definitions of the two termbases are different.  How can I still get the data into the new termbase? So far, I have not been able to import a single term. Is there now way to import the fields that match and to leave the other fields blank so that we can edit them later? Sure there must be any other way than manually adding all the terms again.

  • Hello,

To import entries from one termbase into another with different termbase definitions, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Export the data from the legacy termbase

    1. Open MultiTerm 2021 and select the legacy termbase.

    2. Use the Export Wizard to export the data to an XML or Excel file format. Make sure to select the appropriate fields and options during the export process.

Step 2: Modify the exported data

    1. Open the exported file in an XML or Excel editor.

    2. Adjust the data to match the new termbase definition. You can remove or add fields as needed, and ensure that the field names and structure match the new termbase.

Step 3: Import the modified data into the new termbase

    1. Open MultiTerm 2021 and select the new termbase.

    2. Use the Import Wizard to import the modified data. Make sure to map the fields correctly during the import process.

By following these steps, you should be able to import the data from the legacy termbase into the new termbase, even if the termbase definitions are different. The fields that match will be imported, and the other fields can be left blank for editing later.

If you encounter any issues during the process, please review the MultiTerm documentation for more information on using the Import and Export Wizards.

    Best regards,
