How can I open my 2011/2014 termbases in Multiterm 2015????

Hello,

when I try to open some of my old termbases created in MT 2011 or 2014, I get the following message:

"There was a problem opening the termbase at C:\(PATH WITHOUT SPECIAL CHARACTERS LIKE ";" OR "&"). Check that this is a valid termbase and that you have permission to access it."

Does anybody know, what this message means? I found some KB article regarding "special characters", but there are NO special characters in the file name or in the path. I have installed Visual C++ SP1 too.

My computer runs on Win 7 SP1, MS Visual C++ SP1 is installed.

Thanks for an idea how to remove this @!*GRRR message and to work with old termbases.

  • Hi Adrian and Paul,

I got a very similar message "There was a problem opening the termbase at [path specified]. Check that this is a valid termbase and that you have permission to access it.” for all my old termbases a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't even create a new termbase in MT 2015 (have you tried doing that, Adrian?).

I logged a support ticket and through a remote session, we discovered I was running an older build of MT 2015.
The strange thing was that it was working fine until a) I updated to Studio 2015 CU1 and b) upgraded to Windows 10.  One of these 'broke' my version of MT2015 (I'm not sure which).
After installing build 1504 everything is back to normal.

Your issue may be quite different, but it may be worth checking your build (Help tab>About) and also Check for Updates.

  • Hi Emma,
thank you for your advice, you are a genius!!!
I was running MT build 1494, after the upgraded version (build 1504) has been installed everything works fine!
Just for your information - the situation before the upgrade: I could not create a new termbase based on an "old" termbase definition file (got some error message). When I converted the exact same Excel file with MT 2015 Convert, MT created a new termbase based on this new definition file without a problem.
But now everything seems to work fine, thank you again!
    Regards,
    Adrian
