Finding duplicate entries in Multiterm

Hi All,

I'm looking for a fast, clean way to find and delete duplicate entries in a recently merged MT database. Apparently no add-ins in the RWS AppStore.
In MT's terminology entry list it is possible to see the duplicates and to delete them one at a time with a keyboard combination, which is slow.
Multiterm 2021 SR-2 - 16.2.1.1044

Any ideas?

TIA,

Gary

  • Hello Gary,

You can indeed remove duplicate entries from your MultiTerm termbase by using a combination of Excel's Remove Duplicates function and the Glossary Converter. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do it:

Step 1: Export your MultiTerm termbase to an Excel file. You can do this by using the Export function in MultiTerm.

Step 2: Open the exported Excel file and use Excel's Remove Duplicates function to identify and remove duplicate entries. This function can be found under the Data tab in Excel.

Step 3: Once you've removed the duplicates, save your Excel file.

Step 4: Use the Glossary Converter to convert your Excel file back into a MultiTerm termbase. The Glossary Converter is a free tool available in the RWS AppStore.

Step 5: Import the new termbase into MultiTerm.

Please note that this process will only remove exact duplicates. If there are entries that are similar but not identical, they will not be considered duplicates by Excel.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

    Best regards,
