Creating a Termbase from a Multi-Sheet Excel File in Trados

Hello all,

I hope you are doing well!

I’m trying to create a glossary in Trados using an Excel file with multiple sheets. Each sheet corresponds to a different product, and I need to specify from which product each term comes in the glossary. From what I understand, MultiTerm typically processes a single-sheet file, but I’d like to confirm:Is there a way to import a multi-sheet Excel file directly into MultiTerm without manually consolidating the data?

Any guidance or best practices would be greatly appreciated.Blush

Thank you!

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide the version of Trados Studio and MultiTerm you are using. Also, it would be helpful if you could share the structure of your Excel file (without sharing any confidential data) and any error messages you might have encountered during your attempts.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

Creating a termbase from a multi-sheet Excel file in MultiTerm is not directly possible. MultiTerm typically processes a single-sheet file. However, there are workarounds you can consider:

    1. Consolidate your data: You can manually consolidate your data into a single sheet in Excel before importing it into MultiTerm. You can add an additional column to specify the product each term belongs to.

    2. Use a third-party tool: There are tools available in the RWS AppStore that can help you convert your Excel file into a format that MultiTerm can process. One such tool is the Glossary Converter. This tool can convert Excel glossaries and simple termbases just by dragging and dropping onto a desktop icon. However, it requires that you have Excel and MultiTerm 2011 or later installed.

Please note that these are general suggestions and the effectiveness might vary depending on the specific structure of your Excel file and the version of Trados Studio and MultiTerm you are using.
