Why does a Termbase issue prevent MultiTerm to Launch?

Hi everybody,
I try to launch Multiterm 2024, in which two remote termbases were open before Windows decides to make an update.
I get the following boxes:
Error window with red cross icon. Message in French: A problem occurred while opening the termbase in Banque Royale du Canada. English: The Termbase name is not valid or it has not been published.

then

Detailed error window with red cross icon. Message: The Termbase name is not valid or it has not been published. Includes stack trace and technical details.
Then
Simple error window with red cross icon. Message: The Termbase name is not valid or it has not been published.

And the the process stops, and Multiterm does not open.
I can understand there are issues with a termbase, but how can a termbase loading or access issue prevent the software to launch?
That does not give any control to, e.g., try to re-establish the connection.
MultiTerm should be able to open even without loading the bases.
What a waste of time!

Question improvement suggestion: Provide specific error messages or codes that appear when trying to launch MultiTerm, as well as the exact version of MultiTerm you are using.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

It seems you're experiencing issues with MultiTerm 2024 not launching due to problems with remote termbases. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    **Step 1:** Check for Updates

Ensure that you have the latest updates for MultiTerm 2024. Sometimes, updates can resolve compatibility issues that arise after a Windows update.

    **Step 2:** Move Termbases Locally

If your termbases are stored on a network or shared space, try copying them to a local drive (e.g., C:\ drive) and then attempt to launch MultiTerm again.

**Step 3:** Reset Termbase List Settings

    1. Close MultiTerm.

    2. Navigate to the following path in Windows File Explorer:

      `C:\Users\%username%\App Data\Local\SDL\SDL Multi Term`

    3. Depending on your version, delete or rename the folder corresponding to your version of MultiTerm (e.g., `Multiterm16` for 2021).

    **Step 4:** Repair Installation

    1. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.

    2. Find MultiTerm in the list, right-click, and select Repair.

    3. Restart your computer and try launching MultiTerm again.

**Step 5:** Check VPN and Firewall Settings

If you are using a VPN, try disconnecting it, as it may interfere with MultiTerm's ability to access remote termbases. Additionally, check your firewall settings to ensure that MultiTerm is allowed to communicate through the network.

    **Step 6:** Reinstall MultiTerm

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, consider uninstalling and then reinstalling MultiTerm 2024 to ensure that all components are correctly installed.

If the problem persists after trying these steps, please provide any specific error messages you encounter, as well as the exact version of MultiTerm you are using, for further assistance.
