Multiterm Widget irresponsive, MT Desktop crashes on TB opening...

Hello,

I am having some terrible problems with my Multiterm 2014 and its widget. This is what has happened to me twice:

At some point, the Widget crashes after typing in a phrase to search. I've followed KB #4994 to resolve the issue (by deleting certain files generated when the termbases are opened by the Widget, in the Trados Studio or in the Multiterm. In the first instance, the KB solution worked.

Now the same is happening again. I've followed the solution by deleting the .mtf and .mdf files again - now when I launch the widget, it only sits in the notification bar of the task bar and does not respond whatsoever to either left or right clicking; I got no other option than to kill its process in the Task Manager.

On top of this, something has happened to Multiterm Deskop - when I clik the Open Termbase button, the bottom message bar says Opening Termbase, the mouse pointer spins the waiting wheelie, and nothing happens, until the title bar reads (Not responding).

On top of this, the Error window shown under the KB number for Trados Studio is also a nag.

I'm at a loss as what to do next with this. The problem origin is completely unknown; I've added the Multiterm file extensions to the white list on my antivirus suite (as instructed in the KB), and this time the KB solution is ineffective.

What I did now is went to the AppData\Roaming location of the Multiterm and Widget files and deleted the settings XML files. This seems to have worked, the Widget is responsive again, but I got to hassle with setting up the TBs again in its config. Ditto for Multiterm Desktop - once I've deleted the XML settings, it's responding to commands like it should. There is no nagging error window when the Studio looks up open TBs when working on translation.

This is quite embarrasing to repeat this process every week or so. I do not know what is periodically happening to the XML settings/config files, but they seem to be the culprit.

Any suggestions for resolving this or other improvements are welcome.

  • Hi Jędrzej,

    I think the first thing would be to make sure you are using consistent versions acriss the board.  So if you're on Studio 2014 still can you make sure you have these versions:

    Studio : 2014 SP2 11.2.4422.11

    MultiTerm : 2014 SP2 11.2.1379.0

    The widget you're using should be the one you instaled when you installed Multiterm, so nothing from the OpenExchange.  It should also be this version:

  • Hi Paul,

    Thanks for the advice. The versions are as you've posted, so that's not the issue here. I've got everything purchased in a bundle (Trados, MT and the Widget) and downloaded from the SDL account sections.

    Also I'm running Win 10 now, upgraded to from Win 7 Pro (the update went smoothly, but still not a 'clean installation' in tech terms).

    As for the KB solution I mentioned, I did not elect to reorganise the SDLTB files; there seems to be nothing helpful on that end, I also don't edit my TBs yet and rendering them read-only would not be advantageous.
  • Hi Jędrzej,

    In that case I think the best thing is for you to submit a case and have the support team look at this. Go to the Knowledgebase;

    http://kb.sdl.com

    Then go to the tab called Solution Finder and now go here;

    Download & Installation Problems
    - I use SDL Trados Studio and/or SDL MultiTerm 2009, 2011, 2014 or 2015
    -- The installation went fine but now I get an error message etc
    --- The problem occurs in (pick the appropriate tool/s)
    ---- None of the articles resolved my problem (if they didn’t!)

    Follow the route for your problem and if there is no answer that helps by the time you get to the end you'll be presented with a form to contact support. Complete all the fields in the form making sure your email address is entered correctly or nobody will be able to get back in touch with you.

    Also use the Chrome browser to log the case if you have it; you'll get more success in completing the form.

    Regards

    Paul
