Invisible Termbase

Why Trados studio 2021 is not detecting or reading my Termbase after normal working several years?

Error "Object reference not set an instance of an object". I tried reset  Studio 2021 with " _old", but all is the same.

Question improvement suggestion: Provide the exact version of Trados Studio you are using and any recent changes made to your system or software that might have affected the termbase functionality.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

It seems you're encountering the "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error in Trados Studio 2021, which is preventing your termbase from being detected. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

**Step 1:** Ensure that your termbase is correctly set up in Trados Studio. Go to Project Settings > Language Pairs > All Language Pairs > Termbases and verify that your termbase is listed and properly configured.

**Step 2:** Check if your termbase files are accessible and not corrupted. If possible, try opening the termbase in MultiTerm to see if it functions correctly there.

**Step 3:** Reset your Trados Studio settings. You can do this by renaming the relevant folders in the AppData directory. For Trados Studio 2021, navigate to:

    `C:\Users\[Your_Username]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16.0.0.0`

Rename the folder to `16.0.0.0_old` and restart Trados Studio.

**Step 4:** Check for updates. Ensure that you have the latest version of Trados Studio 2021 installed. You can do this by going to Help > Check for Updates.

**Step 5:** If the issue persists, consider uninstalling and reinstalling Trados Studio and MultiTerm. Make sure to back up your settings and termbases before doing this.

**Step 6:** As a last resort, you may want to check if any antivirus software is interfering with Trados Studio's ability to access the termbase files. Temporarily disabling the antivirus could help identify if this is the cause.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, please provide more details about your setup, including the exact version of Trados Studio and any recent changes made to your system.

  • Trados Studio\16.0.0.0` I foolishly uninstalled Studio 16 a bit earlier, before the problem appeared. Now I only have the 2019 version and use 2021

Question improvement suggestion: Provide details about any specific error messages you encounter when trying to use Trados Studio 2021, and clarify if you have any termbases available or if you are trying to create a new one.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

It sounds like you're facing challenges with Trados Studio 2021 after uninstalling the previous version. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error and ensure your termbase is functioning correctly:

    **Step 1:** Verify Installation

Since you mentioned uninstalling Studio 16, ensure that Trados Studio 2021 is properly installed. If you haven't already, consider reinstalling it to ensure all components are correctly set up.

    **Step 2:** Check for Updates

Make sure that your Trados Studio 2021 is updated to the latest version. You can do this by going to Help > Check for Updates within the application.

**Step 3:** Reset Trados Studio Settings

To reset your Trados Studio settings, navigate to the following directory:

    `C:\Users\[Your_Username]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16.0.0.0`

Rename the folder to `16.0.0.0_old` and restart Trados Studio. This will reset your settings to default.

    **Step 4:** Verify Termbase Configuration

Check if your termbase is correctly configured in Trados Studio. Go to Project Settings > Language Pairs > All Language Pairs > Termbases and ensure your termbase is listed and properly set up.

    **Step 5:** Test Termbase Accessibility

If you have access to MultiTerm, try opening your termbase there to ensure it is not corrupted. If it opens without issues, it should work in Trados Studio as well.

    **Step 6:** Recreate the Termbase

If the termbase is not functioning, consider recreating it in MultiTerm and then re-adding it to your Trados Studio project.

**Step 7:** Check for Conflicting Software

Sometimes, antivirus or other security software can interfere with Trados Studio's functionality. Temporarily disable any such software to see if it resolves the issue.

If you continue to experience problems, please provide more details about any specific error messages you encounter or any additional context that might help in diagnosing the issue.

  • Hi

You own Trados 2021 with the email linked to Community so you need to have Trados 2021 and Multiterm 2021 installed, as Multiterm activates via Trados.

I don't understand what 2019 version you have?

I suggest you try to repair Trados - I am not sure what you uninstalled. https://gateway.rws.com/csm?sys_kb_id=b24f61e983466690396947426daad39d&id=kb_article_view&sysparm_rank=1&sysparm_tsqueryId=be103b6883fb225415c56180deaad368

For reset, it is advised to rename certain files or folders, not to uninstall something:https://gateway.rws.com/csm?id=kb_article_view&sys_kb_id=792c79773b81e6d093afd79704e45af0&spa=1

Try to offer more details please and also screenshots help when you have errors.

    Best regards,

    Anca
