Where does it say this in the help?  I think there are only two ways to do this and I'm not sure either of them are what you're looking for.

First of all you can add the following to a word or phrase in a descriptive field, not the term itself:

So you edit the term, then select the text in the descriptive field you wish to add the link to (but don't open the field, just select the text in edit mode) and then righ-click.  You get this menu.  You can then add links to another term, to an entry ID or to a hyperlink.  The hyperlink is only websites, so if you try to add anything else Multiterm will add http to the start and then it will fail to find the file you linked to for example.

You can add a new field, give it the property media, and then you can add supported files.  But these are going to be embedded media and not links.  So if I do this with a PDF for example I end up with this:

You can change the properties so it's readable, with a lot of scrolling, but otherwise it's not brilliant.

As far as I know this these are the only ways to add attachments in Multiterm.  I'd be really pleased if someone showed me the error of my ways here too because I often get asked how to add an attachment as a link to a file on a local drive, and I don't think it can be done.

For a link to a local drive, have you considered using file:///<filepath>? For the filepath you can usually copy the filepath from the File Explorer.
