Termbase gets bigger when deleting entries and doing a reorganisation

Hi all,

I deleted some entries and duplicates in a local MultiTerm termbase and noticed that the file size got larger instead of smaller. I then did a reorganisation because I thought this might reduce the size. Instead now the termbase is ten times bigger than it was in the beginning.

Does anyone have an idea how this works?

Thank you in advance.

  • Hi Sara,

One of the things this does is rebuild the fuzzy indexes, so perhaps this is something that is long overdue and it added to the size of your termbase? Just guessing as it is indeed supposed to help reduce the size of your termbase but this would normally be the case if you were importing terms. So maybe, if you weren't importing terms this is the reason. Is it faster or has it also slowed down?

If it's a relatively simple termbase can you export to Excel and then recreate it and see whether this reduces the size? The Glossary Converter on thre AppStore will make short work of this test.

    Regards
