Intelligent / rule-based MT suggestions?

My main concern is with numbers. Is there a way to make MT recognize terms that including numbers regardless of the specfic number? I e.g. often have to translate lengths, so is there a way to make MT suggest "[any number] cm" as the translation of "[any number] cm" without me having to plot every single number in each time a new length / number of centimeters comes up?

Thanks -

Mark

  • Hi Mark,

Your question has confused me a bit. Why are you using multiterm for numbers? Surely it would be easier to allow the TM to recognise numbers and units automatically?

Maybe we are at cross purposes here... do you have a small sample text I can use to show you how this works? Just copy paste it into here if you like.

    Regards

  • Hi Paul and thanks for your answer - I'd like multiterm to recognize numbered values so that the translation will be autosuggested as I go along. As I understand the TM it only focusses on entire segments, what I'd like is the autosuggestion for smaller bits inside the segments. I am, admittedly, relatively new to Trados so maybe I've missed something... Here's your sample:

"Mit gerade einmal 18 Watt - was verglichen mit einer herkömmlichen Glühbirne extrem wenig ist - erzeugt sie eine erstaunliche Helligkeit von 1.200 Lumen."

    - which roughly means -

"With just 20 watt - which is extremely little compared to traditional bulbs - it produces an amazing brightness of 1.200 lumen."

It would ease may work if I for example could just type "2" + [enter]" instead of the entire "20 watt" -- and if I could for example just type "b" + [enter] instead of the entire "brightnes of 1.200 lumen".
    ------------------------------------------
I hope that makes my question clearer. These are only a few and rather simple examples of the many kinds of values and expressions that include values which my translation texts contain.
