Cursor hopping from editing panel to left panel of Multiterm

When editing or adding a term in Multiterm 2015, my cursor often and unpredictably hops from wherever I have it in the right-hand panel to the hitlist in the left panel. This is very peeving and makes me have to move the cursor back to the right-hand panel to continue editing. Is there a solution for this fault in the program, or at least the hope of a solution in MT 2017?

  • Thanks for your reply, Luis. Good to hear that you are planning to change the Add New Term behavior.

The strange focus behavior happens almost every time I add a term in Multiterm 2015 or 2017, i.e., I click “Add New” and type or paste the source term and start typing the target term. Sometimes I can type the target term without problems, but what usually happens is that in the middle of typing, the cursor moves to the Hitlist pane, and it seems as if Multiterm started to look for terms (in the Hitlist pane) beginning with the letter/key I was pressing right when the cursor moved. This seems to happen randomly and with any letter/key, so, it seems to me that it is not a certain keypress that causes the behavior.

This happens in all the operating systems where I have used or am using Multiterm, i.e, Windows 8.1, Windows 7 Ultimate and Windows 10 Pro, and it only occurs when adding terms in Multiterm – not if I do so within Studio. The cursor behaves normally in all other programs as well, so, this affects Multiterm only.

The only “special” thing about my system is that I am using a (physical) Scandinavian keyboard, and since the “core” language of my Windows UI is Spanish, I have changed the default ES keyboard/input language to FI in Control Panel > “Region and Language” > “Change keyboards or other input methods”. I am not sure if this has anything to do with it, but thought I should mention it, since it does occur when I am typing.

    Regards,
    Mia
  • I started this conversation but it didn't occur to me that my keyboard could have any bearing on it. In any case, I use a physical keyboard actually manufactured for Scandinavian languages, though among those languages I of course normally select the Icelandic input and use it also when typing English. As I have said before, the sudden jump in focus to the Hitlist when I am trying to enter a term in the editing pane seems entirely random, so that it's a pain in the neck to have to be looking at Multiterm while typing. I never add terms directly from Studio or Word so I can't say about that.
