Multiple dropdown items as a default in input models in MultiTerm 2015.

I'm currently working on a terminology project where the specific subject matter is of relevance to two areas of supervision.

The "Aufsichtsbereich" field ("area of supervision") is used to ensure that there is a distinction between a term as say used in banking supervision (BS) and say used in insurance supervision (IS). It uses a dropdown value and there is the possibility to specify multiple areas of supervision.

In the case in question shown above as an example the terminology used overlaps for two areas (BS and AML/CFT). Currently I am only able to select one default value (either "BS" or "AML/CFT"). Is there a way in an input model to select both/multiple values by default, through MultiTerm?

Otherwise I presume there is the manual way (e.g. to use a hard filter for all the entries qualifying, and to then manually adjust the entries, although I'd understandably not want to have to do manual Intervention if say I am working on hundreds/thousands of entries.

Bright ideas gratefully accepted!

Michael

  • Hi Michael,

    Tricky one as you can only set one default value.  There may be more answers to this one from people more experienced with managing terminology in this way, but I can think of two solutions... may or may not be viable for you:

    1. Create an attribute for both fields in one (may not be appropriate at all... but thought I'd mention this anyway!)
    2. Export your XML and then manually edit the xml and reimport (values are separated by pipes in the export so fairly simple to edit).  But be careful on import to avoid duplication.  I recommend a  few tests with a simplified test file first and always back up your termbase before trying this.

    Looking forward to hearing some better ideas... perhaps  might have some good ideas here?  I know he does a lot of fiddling around with these sorts of things and is far more adept than I am!

  • Hi Paul,

    Thanks for the answer.  I think I have found how to do it. I saved the .xdm file and then opened it up in Notepad++

    <ElementType ID="12" name="descrip" content="mixed" order="many" type="enumeration" values="Allgemein|Bankenaufsicht|Zahlungsinstitute|Einlagensicherung|Versicherungsaufsicht|Pensionskassenaufsicht|Wertpapieraufsicht|Unerlaubter Betrieb|Verbraucherschutz|Geldwäsche und Terrorismusfinanzierung|Bankenabwicklung" default="Geldwäsche und Terrorismusfinanzierung" readOnly="no">

    As you suggested about the piped separation I added Bankenaufsicht| to the default setting

    <ElementType ID="12" name="descrip" content="mixed" order="many" type="enumeration" values="Allgemein|Bankenaufsicht|Zahlungsinstitute|Einlagensicherung|Versicherungsaufsicht|Pensionskassenaufsicht|Wertpapieraufsicht|Unerlaubter Betrieb|Verbraucherschutz|Geldwäsche und Terrorismusfinanzierung|Bankenabwicklung" default="Bankenaufsicht|Geldwäsche und Terrorismusfinanzierung" readOnly="no">

    And saved the .xdm (with another Name to avoid confusion). Having activated that input model now when I do a Ctrl+F2 in Studio in Editor view, by default I get:

    Problem solved! Prettier, more elegant solutions still welcomed!

  • Hi Michael,

    That's a much better solution than mine already... avoids many issues. I doubt you'll get a more elegant solution than that though.

    Good lateral thinking! I'll remember that one.

  • Worth mentioning, just to close this off, that if you then alter the .xdm from within MultiTerm again subsequently, the piped Default will be reset and only one Default item shown...
