Multiterm Desktop 2017: Broken integration, cannot reorganize

We have noticed several problems with the new releases of Trados Studio 2017. Many involve MultiTerm. Things have reached a point now where I can no longer use these products.

After installing TS 2017 and MT 2017 (still in trial phase), the first thing we noticed is that Studio does not always update the "Term Recognition" window when you cursor into or move to a new unit. Sometimes simply cursoring out and back into the unit would get MT to fix itself, but now even this isn't working. Now it's hardly finding anything at all. In a file with 170 words, with many potential lookup terms, only 1 single term is found -- so I guess it's not completely broken, just completely useless. The word it found is the German "ab" and if I turn off recognition of 2-letter terms, even this gets lost.

Just tested in TS 2015 and am now getting the same behavior. That's just great!

Trying to reorganize the termbase in MT 2017 throws a Windows error.

So now our termbase, which was working fine before, is corrupt and unusable.

I usually don't like to complain, but seriously SDL, really?

Am now going to try exporting the termbase and making a new one. Just wanted to thank SDL for this. :(

  • Hi Paul,

I appreciate your concern. I also appreciate that SDL provides the tools to get out of situations like this. ;-)

I was able to export the termbase using the default export definition and create a new termbase based on the old. Import went off without a hitch and I am now able to continue working (while knocking on wood).

This is exactly why I don't like complaining. This issue just caught me at a bad time workwise with a lot on my plate, but in the end was relatively easy to solve. I imagine there was some sort of conflict with our "old" 2015 termbase being used in 2017 that an update (i.e. export/import in MT 2017) was able to solve rather easily.

    Thanks again!
