Segmentation problems using TM after adding segmentation rules

Question

Hi, 
 I decided to add segmentation rules to my TM. I worked like a charm on one project but then....from that point going forward when preparing a new project with the TM the file came out totally fragmented (into half words, letters and spaces) or even get completely stuck. What is worse, even after I decided to remove the custom segmentation rules and revert to original settings project preparation remains broken. I cannot prepare a project with a TM for pre-translation, but am forced to add the TM later, not to mention that I cannot use any custom segmentation rules in this state of affairs. What went wrong with my machine and how can I fix it?

 If you have tried resetting your segmentation rules here: 
 
 Then it may be one of two problems (at least...) 
 1. You are changing the rules on a different TM to the one you are using for your project (worth making sure... it happens!) 
 2. Close Studio and restart. Studio has a habit of hanging onto settings even after you change them and the refresh often needs help

I don't think you can take off the shelf segmentation rules and expect them to solve segmentation issues with your files. You really need to know what you are trying to solve and create the rules for that problem. Interestingly I wrote an article over the weekend on this topic:

Maybe that will help you. I could not comment on the proz post you shared other than to say it looks complex for a simple problem.
