Creating another xml file type with target tag empty

Question

I'm trying (once again) to create an XML file type in order to translate some new xml files from one of my clients. The structure of xml file is: source language with text, 2 target languages empty. I don't usually have any problems preparing XML files to be translated in Trados Studio but In this case I need to prepare the files first in notepad++ in order to be able to translate them in Trados Studio. The structure is:

<rdf:Alt>
<rdf:li xml:lang="es-ES">{\rtf1 BLA BLA BLA TEXT TO BE TRANSLATED.}</rdf:li>
<rdf:li xml:lang="en-EN">{\rtf1}</rdf:li>
<rdf:li xml:lang="eu-EU">{\rtf1}</rdf:li>

</rdf:Alt>

Any ideas on how I could automatically copy/paste the text from "es-ES" to "en-EN" and "eu-EU"?

Thank you all for your answers! After several hours cracking my brain (really need to study more about regex) I was finally able to adapt your suggestions (a mix of Paul 's and Christine Eulriet suggestions) and find a suitable regular expression to find/replace. My bad because when I pasted the text you couldn't see there were tabs. So my (messy) solution was: SEARCH: ( +\{\rtf1)(?<2>[^<]+)( +\{\rtf1)(?<2>[^<]+)( +\{\rtf1)(?<2>[^<]+) REPLACE: $1$2$3$2$5$2 Thank you so much everyone! Now we can finally translate this with Studio!

Hi Mafalda, You can try with a regular expression from notepad++. If they are strict with the syntax and they keep the spaces, same kind of quotes... the find/replace using the regular expression below should work in notepad++. FIND (\{\)(.*?)(\}) (\{\)(.*?)(\}) (\{\)(.*?)(\}) REPLACE (\{\)(\2)(\}) (\{\)(\2)(\}) (\{\)(\2)(\})

Mafalda Gouveia da Costa A bit messy and based entirely on your example but this would do it. Search for this: (?<1> )(?<2>[^<]+)(?<3>.+?EN">)(?:[^<]+)(?<4>.+?EU">)(?:[^<]+)(?<5>.+?) Replace with this: $1$2$3$2$4$2$5 Could be shortened a bit I'm sure, and I used named capturing groups because I got lost counting the backreferences ;-) But gives me this so seems to be functional based on the only data you provided: One other thing... make sure your editor is set so a dot matches new line breaks.
