Am I suffering a mental blockage or are there problems with Verification regexes, such as those with the “Report if source matches but not the target” condition that worked in the past?

I doubt it! But there were changes with 2021 (I think) related to how backreferences were handled so it could be that your particular examples fall into that category. I don't recall the detail off the top of my head but I do remember the discussions at the time.

My problem is not with backreferences which I agree is a special case, but with simple regexes.
I am trying to analyse my problem and an getting increasingly confused.
Project 1: Verification OK
I exported the Verification Regex settings from Project 1 and imported into Project 2. I added my test file to Project 2. Verification NOK!
I reset Trados Studio - no change
I removed all regexes except the relevant check from Project 1 and imported this single setting into Project 2 after clearing all items. Verification OK! It would appear some "old" settings were retained somewhere.
So all is sorted now?

I am not sure that I would use the term "sorted", but my regexes now seem to process correctly, although there appears to be an "unqualifiable" problem somewhere.

ok. When you manage to qualify it in some way, or at least explain a little where the problem is with some examples, we can look at this again. If you don't mind I'll close this thread off as the original question is probably no longer relevant.
Thanks for updating.
