Excel with scripting in it

Hi. I am trying to embed some scripting that I have in an excel file, but I am not able to do that. That's an example: ^isEU()?"

In accordance with GDPR, the data controllers for XYZ project will be named at the end of the interview.":""^ I am trying to create placeholders out of ^isEU()? and :""^ but the embedded option in Trados does not work (I did hit "Include" in the Advanced options). Anyone know as to why it does not work? Thanks

Because some of the characters to be used for creating placeholders have syntactical meaning in regex, they must be escaped, for example, \^isEU\? 
 In the recent Elevate conference I presented a QA Regex session in which I discussed, among other things, the use of regex for defining placeholders.
