Trados 2014 Deletes all projects without my permission

Dear Community Members,

My Trados Studio 2014 deletes all my projects which were uploaded to application since December 2014. All my work failed. I have left only Sample Project in Trados. And I reinstalled Studio once again. It deleted my last projects too. Can you please let me know if you have experienced the same?

  • Hi Gunay,

Do you mean that the projects have disappeared from the Projects list in Studio? This would happen for example if the folder path to where Studio has saved your projects has been changed, or if the folder/s they are saved in has/have been moved, renamed (or deleted of course).

If the above is what you mean...

Do you know how to find where Studio is saving your projects in Windows Explorer? It usually automatically uses the last place you saved a new project to, unless you choose somewhere specific via Browse when you create your project.

This would only be the default SDL Projects folder in My Documents (C:\Users\YourUserName\Documents\Studio 2014\Projects) if you haven't saved a project elsewhere on your computer filing system.

If you don't know how to find your projects via Windows Explorer, open Studio and go to the Projects view, then click on 'Open Project', which will take you to the last folder you worked to hopefully. Or you can click on 'New Project' > Next, then in the second window under 'Location' you will see the folder path that your last new project was saved to.

Failing all else, open My Documents in Windows Explorer. You will see a 'Search' line top right of the window. Enter *.sdlproj here and click 'Search'. This will bring up a virtual list of all the Studio projects in your Documents directory. If you look at the line below each one, it gives you the folder path where each one can be found. The folder path is the 'address' line at the top of a Windows Explorer window. You can copy and paste any folder path into this line and click 'Enter' to go there.

If you don't know how to open My Documents in Windows Explorer, click on the icon with your username on it that is on your Desktop (i.e. the screen your computer opens to when you switch it on (unless you're using Windows 8 and have it set to open with the Metro panes in which you need to go to the Desktop screen). Clicking on your username icon will open Windows Explorer, then you double click on 'Documents' and do as I describe in the previous paragraph.

    I do hope this helps,

    All the best,

    Alison

  • Dear Alison, root folders of old projects are in Documents, but in Trados there are no projects. But as for my last projects, all of them are deleted, without any folder left. I cant find any files, TMs of my last projects. In Trados--->Projects there is only one sample project.
  • Dear Gunay,

A few facts that I'm not sure you are aware of:

You can access your old projects in Documents then double-click on the project icon to open the project in Studio, i.e. the icon next to the project name as shown here:

or here if you have your window display set to large icons, for example (your icon may look different to this):

If your projects are not listed in Trados Studio Projects list when you have Studio open, that does not mean they have been deleted from your system.

If there are no projects in your Documents\Studio 2014\Projects folder, that does not mean there are no projects on your system.

Also, any project folder that you move or rename in Windows Explorer will disappear from your Projects list in Studio.

If you already knew all of the above and they do not apply, I think someone needs to access your system remotely over the internet, or talk to you by telephone, to look at what is happening.

If you have a support contract, use that. If not and if you have an issue preventing you from being able to use the software at all then you can log a case and get some help. This can be achieved really quickly using this link:

    gateway.sdl.com/webtocase

Fill in the form and submit it. Make sure your email address is entered correctly or nobody will be able to get back in touch with you.

    All the best,

    Ali
